PREMIUM BRANDS:

We have 3 premium brands making robotic vacuums and these include: iRobot, Samsung and Neato. I have hand picked top of the range models from each brand below;

THESE INCLUDE: (1) iRobot has – Roomba 980, Roomba 880 and Roomba 650. (2) Samsung has – POWERbot R9350, POWERbot R9250 and POWERbot R7090. (3) Neato has – Botvac Connected Wifi Enabled, Botvac D5 Connected and Neato Botvac D80.

AVERAGE BRANDS:

Why call them average? Because they have basic features and the brands are not so popular. These include; ECOVACS DEEBOT, bobsweep, iLife and Eufy. I have hand picked top of the range models from each brand below;

THESE INCLUDE: (1) ECOVACS DEEBOT – has DEEBOT M88, DEEBOT M82 and DEEBOT M80. (2) Bobsweep has – bObsweep PetHair Plus, bObsweep Standard and bObi Pet Robotic. (3) iLife has –  ILIFE A6 , ILIFE V5s Pro, and  ILIFE A4s. (4) Eufy has – Eufy RoboVac 11 only (they will release more models in the future).

HOW ABOUT DYSON? I’m a great fun of Dyson vacuum cleaners but this time they failed to produce a competitor for Roomba 980 / Neato Botvac. Their recent model ‘’ Dyson 360 Eye Robot Vacuum’’ is too expensive and it’s very slow compared to Roomba 980. So if you want to buy Dyson robot, I suggest you read customer reviews on Amazon before making that final purchase decision.

Roomba 980 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

IROBOT ROOMBA 980 REVIEW:

iRoobt’s Roomba 980 is the latest Roomba vacuum cleaner on the market and so far the best. I’m not sure if Roomba will release Roomba 990 / Roomba 1000 + soon. But if they do, we shall try it out and write a comparison about it with 980.

If you leave with pets and you have a thick carpet in your living room or bedroom – Roomba 980 is the best choice for you.It features a Carpet Boost technology and a 3rd Generation motor which increases on the suction air of the robot 10x than normal thus capture and remove pet hair from the carpet & floor easily.

I like the fact that this model can be controlled with a mobile app (iRobot Home app). You can use your phone to start the machine or even create cleaning schedules. There is no need of worrying about battery life, why? Because the robot runs quickly to its charging dock to refill the battery and it automatically moves off the dock to resume with the cleaning tusk.

COMPARISONS:

If you have not made a decision yet, I recommend you read my comparisons on Roomba 980 vs 960 / Roomba 980 vs 880 & Roomba 980 vs Neato. In these 3 comparisons; I have clearly stated the differences & similarities between all models.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Multi-room coverage:- Roomba 980 uses an iAdapt 2.0 Navigation system with a Visual Localization technology which guides Roomba to move seamlessly on the entire level without losing track of where it has cleaned or not. 980 keeps track of all locations it has passed – so it does not repeat the same area over and over again. In addition to that, it has intelligent sensors which detect objects thus help the robot know where to clean.

  • Recharge and resume:- Roomba 980’s battery lasts for 120 minutes when fully charged. However, if the area to be cleaned is large, the 120 minutes might not be enough so the robot will automatically take back its self on a charging dock for a quick recharge. Once the battery is well charged, the robot will move off the charging dock and resume with its cleaning tusk without repeating finished areas.

  • AeroForce Cleaning System with Carpet Boost:-When it comes to deep carpet vacuuming, Roomba 980 is the best. While cleaning the floor, its suction power will be normal just like that of other robots. However, when it finds a carpet, the carpet booster switches on its self automatically thus increasing on the suction air & power 10x more than any other robot in its range. This explains why people who leave with pets prefer Roomba 980 to other models.

  • Voice-activated control:- If you own a voice-control device like Amazon Echo. Connect it with Roomba 980 so that you command the Amazon Echo to start the robot vacuum using voice. Home technology is advancing at a high speed, most of the tusks in your house can be controlled by Voice. So you don’t have to miss that interesting game, TV series any more. All you have to do is to talk to Amazon Echo (Alexa) to switch on Roomba 980 and the robot will start vacuuming your room without any single supervision.

  • Tangle Free Side brush:- Roomba 980 features a non tangle side brush which cleans around objects, corners and on wall edges. Since the brush is tangle free – the speed and suction power of the vacuum won’t be compromised.

  • Suitable for homes with pets:- If you’re searching for the best Roomba vacuum for pet hair – look no further than this because Roomba 980 out competes all the other models when it comes to dealing with pet hair. How? Its G3 new generation motor combined with a carpet boost function – pump more suction air thus capturing all pet hair found on the floor or carpet. The carpet boost function makes Roomba 980 very unique and effective on rugs, thick carpets and all floor types. You don’t have to worry about pet hair flying around the room when the robot is vacuuming – its AeroForce filter captures 99% of dirt and small particles.

  • Wi-Fi Connected & Enhanced iRobot HOME App:- It is only Roomba 980 which works with the latest iRobot HOME App. This mobile app can be used to control the functionality of the robot remotely. For example; you can schedule cleaning time, monitor finished & unfinished areas using Clean Map Reports that are generated automatically as the Roomba is doing its Job, turn on the robot remotely using your smartphone, Select between 1 / 2 passes basing on how dirty your room is. Download this app from Ios and Google Play. Easily manage where your robot cleans with the iRobot Home App.

Pros
  • It cleans Carpets deeper and better.
  • Hassle free cleaning operation ( iRobot mobile App)
  • Good battery life
  • Resumes with cleaning after a quick recharge
  • Can be controlled with Alexa
  • It does not get stuck on anything (be it cords, rug edges, in between chairs and so much more)
  • Best for the buck
Cons
  • Quite expensive
  • Not designed to avoid sloppy messes
  • Can’t detect animal parcels (so make sure you remove them because they cause damage)
  • Makes some little noise
  • No Eco Mode (only found on Neato Botvac Connected)

Neato Botvac Connected Wi-Fi Enabled Robot Vacuum Works with Amazon Alexa - 1

NEATO BOTVAC WIFI CONNECTED REVIEW:

If you have been searching for the best Roomba Alternative, Neato is best the brand I can recommend. They have some of the best robotic vacuums on the market and I’m sure they will improve on their technology & design as time goes on.

Neato Botvac Connected competes very well with Roomba 980 – so if you find 980 too expensive for you, grab a Neato Botvac (it will do the same job as Roomba 980). However, Neato Botvac is not so good on thick carpets as it is with Roomba 980. Reason being that Neato does not have a carpet boost function which increases suction power & air when the robot gets on top of a thick carpet. This is the only big difference between Neato Botvac and Roomba 980.

COMPARISON:

If you have not made a decision yet, I recommend you read my comparison on Neato Botvac vs Roomba 980. In this comparison; I have clearly stated the differences between Neato Botvac and Roomba 980 and their similarities.

KEY FEATURES:

  • D-Shape with CornerClever Tech: – The D-shape design enables Neato reach all corners and wall edges. This unique design makes Neato Botvac very effective at cleaning corners more than Roomba 980. Round shaped robotic vacuum cleaners don’t do well in corners – so you will always find dirt in sharp corners. Neato’s main brush spans from the front of the robot to achieve a wider cleaning path. The brushes are tangle free thus reducing on the maintenance work.

  • Boundary Markers:- Neato’s Boundary Markers allows you to decide where your robot should clean and where it should not. All you have to do is to cut the magnetic strip and fit it around objects or paths where Neato should avoid. When the robot finds this magnetic strip, it does not go beyond it.

  • Wi-Fi Connected: – Just like Roomba 980 – Neato Botvac is Wifi enabled. This means you can pair it with the Neato App and control the functionality of robot. For example, you can start the robot via a mobile app, create cleaning schedules for the all week and monitor cleaned areas.

  • Eco & Turbo mode: – To save power, you can decide to run your Neato in an Eco mode. This will give you longer hours and the robot will be quieter. In the Eco mode, Neato will run for 360 minutes before recharging yet in the Turbo mode it will run for 120 minutes before recharge. Opt for the Turbo mode only when you want quick results.

  • Precise LaserSmart Navigation: – The LaserSmart mapping and navigation technology enables Neato Botvac detect objects, scan and map the entire floor. This technology helps the robot clean the right places and not bump around the room.

  • SpinFlow Power Clean: – It does not matter how dirty your floor is; Neato Botvac has potent suction and precision brushes that effectively clear dirt from the floor thus leaving it clean. Its suction power is very good; it can pick up crumbs, dirt and dust bunnies in just one single pass. After cleaning the floor, empty the dirt bin to create space for more dirt & crumbs. If you have pets in the house, no worries – Neato Botvac is great at pet hair too.

  • Battery Life:- High Capacity Lithium-ion which covers up to 5000 sq. ft. in 120 min when the robot is set in a Turbo mode – but when you opt for an Eco mode – It will work for 360 min nonstop.

  • SmartLife:- Easily control Neato Botvac with your voice using Amazon Echo or Google Assistant. Speak to your robot and let it clean your room.

Pros
  • Great at cleaning corners and Wall edges
  • Smart features
  • Low profile design
  • Good battery life
  • Wifi connected
  • Can be controlled with voice using Alexa
  • Create cleaning schedules via a mobile App
Cons
  • Not so good on thick carpets
  • Large footprint – this means it can’t reach tight areas

Roomba 880 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

IROBOT ROOMBA 880 REVIEW:

Most Roomba vacuum cleaners come at a price, so it is better you get to know the pros and cons of each model before spending hundreds of dollars on any of their models.

In this review, we have everything you need to know about iRobot Roomba 880 robot vacuum. We have looked at both its pros and cons.

The Vacuum:

In the 800 series, iRobot Roomba 880 is the best model – the second most advanced model from iRobot brand. I have skipped Roomba 960 simply because it has a very small difference with 980. The price of 880 is quite low as compared to that of 980 – so if you want to save money but still get a premium robot vacuum, Roomba 880 should be your best choice.

It is fully automated; you can easily control it with a remote control. It also has an option of setting cleaning schedules for the all week. It can self-charge once the battery is low but it can’t automatically resume with the cleaning process – so you will need to get it off the dock for it to continue with the vacuuming process.

COMPARISONS:

If you have not made a decision yet, I recommend you read my comparison on Roomba 880 vs 860 / ”Roomba 980 vs 880’’. In these tow comparisons; I have clearly stated the differences & similarities between all models.

KEY FEATURES:

  • AeroForce High efficiency filters:- These capture micro particles and dirt in the room thus leaving it very clean. This functionality makes Roomba 880 as one of the best robot vacuum for allergens.

  • Remote Control:- It does not have a Wifi connectivity, so you can’t pair it with iRobot HOME App. But you can control the robot with iRobot 82201 Remote Control for Roomba. This remote makes your 880 Roomba move conveniently. It includes on / off & directional controls. The only thing you can’t do with this remote control is to create cleaning schedules.

  • Guided, room to room cleaning:- Roomba 880 comes with 2 Virtual Wall Lighthouse Devices. You can use these devices to define which rooms 880 should clean. For example, if you opt for a Lighthouse Mode, the robot will clean from one room to another. However, if you opt for the Virtual Wall Mode, it will keep the Roomba in one room and out of the other rooms.

  • Avoids Cliffs & Stairs:- Using its iAdapt Responsive Navigation system, the robot can sense a change in floor level thus avoid stairs and cliffs saving it from accidents.

  • 3-Stage Cleaning System:- For effective results, Roomba 880 uses a 3-stage cleaning system which combines agitation, brushing and suction. This ensures that no dirt or pet hair is left behind. Also its bristle cleaning brushes can remove stubborn stain from car tiles and hardwood floors.

  • Deeper Cleaning Power:- This model does not have a Carpet Boost technology as Roomba 980 – but with its 3-stage cleaning system, Gen 2 Motor and strong suction power which is 5x powerful, it can deep clean your floors and thin carpets. Its dual counter-rotating brush extractors can grab dirt from any floor type thus making Roomba 880 very effective and better than other Roombas below it.

  • Concentrated Cleaning:- If your pet or kid messes up the floor or carpet, there will be no need of vacuuming the whole room but rather that particular area they have messed up. The Roomba 880 is cable of cleaning a specific area in a large room using its concentrated cleaning Detect Series II Technology. Once the robot detects high concentration of dirt in a specific area, it will clean that area in a circular motion without going to any other area in the room.

  • Spinning Side Brush:- This is a default feature in all robotic vacuum cleaners. It is a tangle free side brush used to clean around objects, wall edges and corners.

  • Scheduling:- We have already seen that Roomba 880 does not pair with the iRobot Home App but you can create schedules on the machine its self. At the top of it you will see a ‘’Create Schedule’’ button. You can set the vacuum to clean when you want it too and preset it any time.

  • Self-Charging:- Once the battery runs low during operation, the Roomba 880 will automatically dock its self, recharge and get ready for the next clean. The only problem with this model is that it can’t automatically resume with the cleaning tusk just like Roomba 980 and this explains why 980 is more expensive than 880.

Pros
  • Affordable premium Roomba
  • Cleans effectively
  • Cleans from room to room
  • Tangle-Free Debris Extractors
  • Avoids stairs and Cliffs
  • Low maintenance
  • Easy to use
  • More powerful the Roomba 650
  • Can be scheduled
  • Automatically Recharges
  • Picks up pet hair
  • Remote control is included
  • Cleans under furniture
  • Great performance on all floor types
Cons
  • Poor battery life (60 minutes – on a 3 hour charge)
  • Does not resume after recharging battery
  • Does not have a Carpet Boost function
  • Not Wifi Enabled
  • Less powerful as compared to Roomba 980
  • Poor performance on rugs
  • Makes noise during operation
  • No Eco Mode

iRobot Roomba 650 Robot Vacuum

IROBOT ROOMBA 650 REVIEW:

iRobot 650 is a basic robotic vacuum from Roomba – designed for small apartments (but it can still be used in a large apartment though you will need to move it from room to room manually). It lacks cutting edge features like ”Carpet Boost, Wifi Connectivity, Recharge & Resume, G3 Motor and a Multi-room Navigation System – but this does not affect its performance. Actually it picks up more dirt than most robotic vacuums on the market.

CLEANING AROUND OBJECTS:- Roomba 650 has iAdapt Navigation sensors to detect objects on the floor thus clean around them. The same Navigation sensors are used to map the floor for easy cleaning.

COMPARISON:

If you have not made a decision yet, I recommend you read my comparison on Roomba 650 Vs 880. In this comparison; I have clearly stated the differences and similarities between Roomba 650 &Roomba 880.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Spot Cleaning: – If dirt is concentrated in one specific area and not the entire room. Put the robot in the area with dirt and press the SPOT clean button. Once this button is pressed, the robot will start moving in a circular motion to spot clean that particular area.

  • Design & Accessories: – Since it is a basic model, its design is simple. It has rubber bumpers around it to protect it from shocks in case it bumps into a wall or an object. Control buttons are all placed at the top for easy access & usage. Roomba 650 does not come with lots of accessories – so you have to buy most of them independently from Amazon, but you will get a single Virtual Wall, Charging dock and Extra filters to start with.

  • Self-Charging:- Roomba 650’s battery life is 65 minutes – so if the battery goes low during operation, it will automatically take its self to a charging dock to refill the battery for next use. The only thing it can’t do is to automatically resume with the cleaning schedule. So you have to pick it up from its charging dock and press the ”START” button for it to resume with its cleaning tusk.

  • Low profile design:- Roomba does not get stuck, its low profile design of 3.6 inches enables it go below the sofa, bed, chairs and tables. It will hunt for dirt in places you can’t reach with an upright vacuum cleaner.

Pros
  • Affordable & Highly rated
  • Spot cleaning
  • Effective on all floor types
  • Ideal for small apartments
  • Effectively removes pet hair
  • You can create cleaning schedules on the go
  • Gently cleans wall-edges
  • Virtual Wall Technology keeps the Roomba in the room you want to be cleaned
  • Simple Operation
Cons
  • It does not have a remote control
  • It does not resume after recharging
  • Does not move from room to room
  • Sees thick carpets and rugs as obstacles
  • Does not have Tangle-Free debris extractors

Eufy RoboVac 11 Self-Charging Robotic Vacuum Cleaner - 1

EUFY ROBOVAC 11 REVIEW:

Eufy RoboVac 11 is cheaper than the cheapest Roomba 650 – so if you can’t afford Roomba 650, Eufy RoboVac 11 is the best option for you.

Eufy RoboVac 11 robotic vacuum cleaner is designed to work on all floor types and thick rugs / carpets. It lacks a few accessories like the virtual wall which keeps the robot in one room – but this does not affect its performance. If you leave with pets, Eufy RoboVac 11 deals with pet hair thoroughly.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Infrared-sensors: – Eufy does not bump into objects, the infrared sensors map the all floor, Identify objects and areas to clean.

  • Specialized Cleaning Modes: – Comes with 2 distinct cleaning modes from which you can choose from. These include; Edge, Spot and Max concentrated cleaning mode which works on stubborn dirt and difficult to clean areas

  • Low profile 0.5 inch: – Unlike Roomba 650 which is 3.6 inches tall, Eufy RoboVac 11 is o.5 inches thinner than most robotic vacuums on the market – this means it can reach areas Roomba & Neato can’t reach.

  • 2 Side brushes instead of one: – Unlike Roomba which has only 1 side brush, Eufy RoboVac has 2 side brushes guarantying you with thorough cleaning.

  • Remote control: – Unlike Roomba 650 which does not come with a remote control, Eufy has a remote control which makes it easy to use the robot.

  • Very quiet: – Majority of Robotic Vacuum Cleaners make noise during operation but Eufy is absolutely quiet – you won’t get any interruption when it’s doing its job.

  • Drop sensing tech:- Eufy knows that your house has stairs and cliffs – so the only way it can stay safe is to use the Drop sensing technology which detects a change in floor level and commands the robot to change direction thus preventing it from drop offs.

  • 3-Point Cleaning System:- For effective results, Eufy uses a 3-Point cleaning system which includes 2 side brushes, a rolling brush which deals with stubborn dirt on the floor and a powerful suction system which ensures thorough cleaning.

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Quiet operations
  • 2 side brushes (cleans better)
  • Best alternative to a stand-up vacuum cleaners
  • Concentrated cleaning mode
  • Can be controlled with a remote control
  • Good battery life – 1.5 hours better than Roomba 650
  • Uses a 3-point cleaning systems which cleans thoroughly
  • Anti-scratch tempered glass covers and protects the vacuum from scratches
Cons
  • It gets stuck on a few objects – for example; base of the fan.

What To Look For When Buying a Robot Vacuum Cleaner

CARE AND MAINTENANCE:

Robotic vacuums don’t need too much maintenance – however, you should always empty the dust bin to maintain the suction power and to replace brushes when they don’t seem to be working anymore.

To keep your robotic vacuum in good condition, avoid putting heavy things on top of the robot when it is in use/not.

I know pets love to be on top this smart vacuum but a pet can make the robot fail to ignore a cliff or stair.

Clear your floor from wires and other clutter that might affect the functionality or the robot. If you have a weak model like Roomba 650, Eufy, remove heavy rugs from its way because none of those two models can clean a heavy rug.
