What Are The Innovative Teaching Methods For High School Teachers

Today, finding new and innovative methods of teaching is a very crucial skill for high school teachers. In fact, research has proven that certain methods and approaches can truly enhance the learning process for students while making the teachers work easy. However, in the past the biggest challenge for teachers was capturing students’ attention and putting across ideas in such a way that they would stay within their memories for longer even after leaving the classroom. So, most schools today have decided to redefine the teaching process by simply introducing innovative-ideas that can make teaching and learning more effective if implemented.

 

List of Innovative Teaching Methods For High School Teachers:

  1. Visualization: This is a good teaching strategy for reading and literacy teachers because they can help students visualize mental-images from any portion of text that is being read aloud. In fact, Knowledge that is organized and connected to concepts with a goal of mastery and ability to visualize the concepts can help students get knowledge easily, deeper and longer about what is being taught. Lastly, teaching students visualization skills can help them understand think and recall critically about the subjects they study.

 

  1. Use of Technology Tools: Using computers, tablets, digital-cameras, video-conferencing-technology and GPS devices can also help to enhance students learning experience. For example, possible uses of classroom-technology may include using video games to teach math and foreign-languages, using Skype to communicate with classrooms or guest speakers from around the world and implementing multimedia projects that allow students to explore subject matter using film, audio and software. However, the use of tech tools in classroom is a privilege not everyone has and it can be easily discontinued if abused.

Active learning: This type of teaching involves use of peer-instructions, discussion-groups and collaborative problem solving. in fact, teachers devoting time to active learning projects is one way to get students thinking, talking and sharing information in the classroom especially when a new topic has been introduced. For example, a teacher can lead a short overview of a particular topic and after gives students a challenge to meet and answer questions or solve problems at the end of the class.

 

  1. Creative-Teaching: This involves use of creative tools to stimulate creativity amongst students. It can be done inform of playful games or forms of visual exercises that can excite the young minds and capture their interest. In fact, this is a time tested method to identify young student’s creative abilities and to encourage creative contributions in all subjects and it also gives students the freedom to explore new things.

 

  1. “Real-World” Learning: This involves linking lessons to real-world learning. For example, teachers can infuse real-world experiences into their instructions in-order to make teaching moments fresh and amazing. In fact, this can make information easy to understand and remember since this type of learning sparks students’ interests by simply getting them excited and involved. Lastly, you may even use smart apps to make teaching-sessions more interesting for students.

 

  1. Brainstorming: Teachers should always make time for brainstorming sessions into their classrooms because they are a great way of getting creativeness from students. In fact, if you have several brains focusing on a single idea then you can probably get numerous ideas and this also helps to engage all students into a particular discussion. Lastly, brainstorming sessions can be a great platform for students to voice their thoughts without having to worry about right or wrong. However, teachers should set some ground rules before starting a brainstorming session.

 

  1. Taking classes outside the classroom: Some lessons are actually best learnt when taught outside the classroom. So, teachers should consider organizing field-trips that are relevant to particular lessons or simply take students for a walk outside the classroom because this will help to freshen-up and excite students so that they can easily learn and remember things taught faster. For example, role-playing is the most effective way of learning for students of almost any age group.

 

  1. Storyboard Teaching: If teachers could teach history in form of stories, it would never be forgotten by students. So, storyboard-teaching is one of the best ways to teach any subject that requires step-by-step memorization or visualization coupled with highly-conceptual ideas. For example, history-teachers can use a storyboard to recreate a famous event and this will help students to easily remember even the complex ideas.

 

  1. Create a Stimulating Classroom Environment: A classroom environment that is well-decorated, fun and engaging can help to stimulate student minds thus helping them think and learn better. In fact, a classroom environment that positively impacts the children is also beneficial for the teacher since it allows students to learn new things faster and easily. All in all, a learning environment has a prime role in the learning and development of any child.
